How To Select a Good PC Speaker For Your Computer

New games offer advance sound features such as, EAX, THX Surround Sound and Dolby Digital. To take benefits of these features, a good gaming speaker is required.

Main factors that play important roles in sound quality of your speaker are as follow:

Total Out-put Power in RMS:

RMS stands for Root Mean Square is mathematical measure of sound out-put. RMS refers to continuous power in Watt that speaker can perform. Some manufacturers use peak power out-put as a total power of speaker which is a wrong way of showing the speaker power.

Speaker Configuration:

Today many games offer surround sound features such as EAX, Dolby Digital and DTS. Surround sound technology uses a hardware decoder that can distinguish the sound sources and frequency and output to various speakers to create a surrounded environment. In general, any speaker that can support these technologies would produce a good piece of music.

Frequency Response:

One of the main factors in quality of the sound is the range of frequency that can produce by the speaker. Frequencies between 20 Hz to 20 kHz ranging from low frequency to the high frequency are limit of human hearing, thus, any speaker that can operate at this frequency range will produce excellent sound quality.

Signal to Noise Ration:

Signal to noise ratio (SNR) refers to the noise interference of the input signal. The higher the SNR, the better is the sound quality. Higher SNR will be very noticeable as it cleaner with less noise during playback. For games that have a broad dynamic range (the difference between the loudest and quietest portions of the program), you have to ensure that the SNR is larger than this dynamic range, else you will experience sound clipping, distortion or even signal loss.

Total Harmonic Distortion (THD):

THD measures in percent (%), is amount of harmonic distortion generated by sound amplifier. Speakers with THD greater than 2% will produce distorted sound and might be unpleasant to the ear. In generally, a computer gaming speaker with low THD is what you should be looking for.

Connectivity Technology:

Some new surround speakers using wireless technology for rear speakers. The wireless speakers generally produce lower sound quality and are more expensive than wired speakers, also most wireless speakers systems (if not all) come with rechargeable batteries. Therefore, it is important to always make sure you have fully charged or new batteries.
